Stoke-on-Trent’s biggest private-sector employer grew turnover 38% to £2.3bn in 2017 with profits up 10% to £557m, driven by the 2016 European football championship and the fall in the value of sterling. It has customers in more than 100 countries, who can bet on a wide range of sports, play casino games and watch more than 140,000 live sport events a year. The Coates family owns the business, which is also the majority shareholder of Stoke City football club, and pledged to continue to support the club as its seeks to rejoin the Premier League following its relegation in May.
