Launched as an online corporate-finance portal by David Vafai in the heady dotcom days of 1999 with £29m of venture capital from Netpartners and GE Capital among others, Bfinance.com was quick to adapt when it made losses. It closed its continental offices, except for one in France, and focused on putting the pension funds of clients such as J Sainsbury, Nationwide and Oxfordshire county council out to tender and presenting the best offers from selected fund managers back to the client. This has pushed up sales 105% a year, from £389,000 in 2001 to £3.4m in 2004.
