This High Wycombe company is one of Britain’s biggest providers of waste management services with more than 60 depots nationwide and more than 1,300 collection vehicles. It collects, treats, recycles and disposes of 10m tonnes of municipal, commercial and industrial waste annually, and also produces renewable energy from the waste. The company was bought by a consortium of investors including Montagu Private Equity, Global Infrastructure Partners and Bank of Scotland for £1.7 billion in 2008 and subsequently bought rival waste management company Greenstar UK for £135m last summer. Now led by chief executive Ian Wakelin, the combined business reported annualised sales of £689m in 2010.
