The four businesses that constitute BDML offer a range of insurance products to cover pets, motorists and homeowners. The company has 860,000 policies in force and they are sold through household names such as the RAC and the Kennel Club. BDML moved into the insurance underwriting market through its acquisition of Sabre Insurance in February 2002, which has been its major catalyst for growth. The four founders created the company through a management buyout in 1998. Sales have grown nearly 104% a year from an annualised £6.6m in 1999 to £55.6m in 2002, when it made a healthy profit.
