Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando and Tom Cruise all played starring roles on a Triumph motorbike. John Bloor, a classic entrepreneur who left school at 15 and then studied at night school while training to be a plasterer, rescued Triumph from the liquidators in 1983 and merged it into his large house-building operation Bloor Homes. Together the two firms made sales of £471m in 2004, when operating profits rose £20m to £70m.
