John Bloor began his working life as a plasterer and built his first house before he was 20. Today the firm he founded builds about 2,000 homes a year in England and Wales. In 1983 Bloor acquired the Triumph motorcycle brand after the company collapsed. The revival of Triumph, now led by Bloor’s son, Nick, has been a great success and today half of group revenue comes from producing 50,000 motorbikes a year at factories in Britain and Thailand. Strong performance in both parts of the business boosted sales to £631m in 2010.
