This discount retail chain says it has opened one new store a week throughout 2009 by acquiring empty Kwik Save and Woolworths stores. Brothers Simon and Bobby Arora bought B&M Retail from Phildrew Ventures in 2004, having sold their previous business for a reported £30m in 2000. They have expanded the company rapidly, growing from 21 stores to 140 high-street and retail-park outlets across Britain. B&M stores sell groceries and beauty products but also stock toys, clothing and electrical equipment. Price-conscious shoppers have helped sales grow 55% a year from an annualised £69.3m in 2005 to £255.9m in 2008.

This profile reflects the company at time of publication and does not reflect any changes that may have subsequently occurred. Fast Track and its sponsors do not endorse, guarantee or recommend investment in any of the companies.
