Profit Track 100

Simon, Bobby and Robin Arora bought Liverpool discount retailer B&M Retail in 2005 when it had only 21 outlets. Now it runs 280 UK stores, selling items from toothpaste to cushions and children’s pyjamas, and says it attracts more than 1m customers a week. B&M has benefited in the economic downturn, because of changing consumer habits and store closures by failing retailers – it bought 11 outlets from the defunct DIY chain Focus in May 2011. Profits grew 56% a year, from £13m in 2008 to £49.4m in 2011.
