It claims to have 9m mainly British customers, who make purchases through their mobile phones or through the website. American Michael Brown saw the market potential for SMS while working for Nortel and left in January 2000 to found Boltblue with Michelle Tsang, a former CSFB banker. Sales have grown 235% a year from an annualised £336,000 in 2001 to £3.8m in 2003.
