This cash and carry giant is a new entry in the Top Track 100 after the Icelandic private-equity firm Baugur took the Big Food Group off the London Stock Exchange in a £326m deal last February. Baugur then split the group into two separate companies, Booker and Iceland, the frozen-food supermarket chain. Booker is the former sponsor of the famous Booker prize for fiction and its 173 outlets offer 20,000 brand-name and own-label products. The firm also includes the catering supplier Woodward. Now run by Hans Kristian Hustad, Booker had sales of £3,389m in 2004.
