Booths

This company was founded in 1847 when Edwin H Booth, a 19-year-old tea dealer, borrowed £80 in grocers’ goods to start the business. Booths operates 26 stores across Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Cumbria, selling a range of locally sourced produce. It has two artisan restaurants, in Kendal and Lytham, both of which promote local produce. The company recently signed a partnership agreement with the Slow Food movement, which promotes greater enjoyment of food through a better understanding of its taste, quality and production. Led by chairman Edwin J Booth, sales reached £254m in 2009.
