In September 2007, Luke Johnson’s Risk Capital Partners acquired Borders UK from its American parent for £20m. Borders UK runs 58 stores in city centres and retail parks in Britain and Ireland, including 41 superstores and 17 high street and airport stores under the Books etc and Borders Express brands. With its Starbucks and Paperchase concessions, Borders is the high street’s second largest book retailer. In 2007 it was voted Bookselling Company of the Year and sales reached £215m.
