In 1964 accountant Peter Harris was sent to audit a caravan park and ended up going into the business. He founded Bourne Leisure, and in 2000 went on something of a buying spree, acquiring Rank’s Haven caravan sites, three Butlins holiday camps, Oasis Holiday Village and Warner holiday parks in a £700m deal part- financed by Legal & General Ventures and Candover. He has since sold some of the sites for £210m, and in February this year LGV and Candover sold their 28% stake back to the company for an undisclosed sum. The latest available accounts to 2002 show sales of £624m and operating profits of £74m. Sales are expected to be £50m higher in 2003.
