Top Track 100

In 1964 accountant Peter Harris was sent to audit a caravan park and ended up going into the business. He founded Bourne Leisure, and in 2000 went on something of a buying spree, acquiring Rank’s Haven caravan sites, three Butlins holiday camps, Oasis Holiday Village and Warner holiday parks in a £700m deal part financed by Legal & General Ventures and Candover. He has since sold some of the sites for £210m. The latest accounts to 2001 show how sales rocketed by more than £500m as a result of the acquisitions to £596m. The company had 11,404 employees at the time.
