This Derbyshire-based construction firm has been in business since 1923 and has helped develop sites such as Derby’s multisport arena and St George’s Park — the FA’s national football centre in Burton upon Trent. Last year strong cashflow allowed the company to fund more developments, helping boost turnover 10% to £931m and profits 26% to £58m. Current projects overseen by chairman John Kirkland, 79, include the £100m regeneration of Crewe town centre and a £50m office development on the site of Manchester’s Paramount Theatre.
