You won’t find Guinness, Stella Artois or even Coca-Cola at any of this chain’s 24 bars across England and Wales. Each has an on-site microbrewery fermenting locally themed beers for discerning drinkers and a quieter crowd typically aged 35-55. Founded in 2012 by industry veterans Kris Grumbell, 51, and Simon Bunn, 53, the business was inspired by the US microbrewery scene and boosted by early funds from the Enterprise Investment Scheme and Puma VCT. Sales hit an annualised £11.4m in 2017, with food accounting for 31% of turnover.
