Founded in 1922, British Engines is a group of eight engineering companies which design and manufacture products including high-pressure valves and hydraulic motors. The business is based in northeast England and its products are exported worldwide via offices in 16 countries. Sales rose 11% to £154.4m in 2017 under chairman Alex Lamb, 47, a descendant of the founders.
