British Engines is a group of six engineering companies supplying industries such as oil and gas and automotive. Products include highpressure valves, hydraulic motors and brakes, manufactured in the north east of England and sold on six continents. It is owned and run by descendants of Harold Lamb, who founded the business in 1922. International sales hit £119.4m last year. The company plans to expand this year by acquiring Rolls-Royce subsidiary Michell Bearings for £12.6m.
