This Strathclyde firm has transformed itself several times since 1924, when boxing champion Bernard Brogan started selling paraffin from a horse and cart. It ran one of Scotland’s biggest excavation-equipment fleets, before moving into fuel distribution. It now moves products such as diesel, lubricants and kerosene around the country with a fleet of 90 tankers, as well as other businesses, including fuel-card agencies and a fuel brokerage. The founder’s grandsons Campbell Brogan, Alan Tait and Alastair Brogan remain in charge, and oversaw sales of £184.8m in 2006.
