Ships run by BUE Marine transport fuel, water, food and equipment to oilrigs in the North Sea and Caspian Sea. The Edinburgh company, founded by Carl Rolaston in 1991, has recently merged its North Sea fleet with that of the Norwegian company Kistefos and has spent £20m building a new ice-breaker that will be used by a consortium of 10 oil companies in the Caspian Sea. Profits at BUE Marine have risen 67% a year from £1.3m in 1998 to £5.9m in 2001, when the company had 896 employees, most of them seafarers.
