Two days before receiving ISO9000 certification, a freak winter storm blew the roof off Bulldog Computer Services’ factory. Employees in woollen hats worked amid ice as a quality assurance manager ran around the factory preparing for the assessment. Bob and Terri Harris have managed to leap over many hurdles while building their computer furniture manufacturing business. Short on cash, they secured funding from the government’s Business Enterprise Allowance in 1984. The Leicestershire-based company has grown sales to £5m by working closely with customers such as Dixons and Staples. Still, doubling its employees to 71 last year has forced the company to invest in training, ultimately becoming “Investors in People” certified.
