CG Fry & Son is one of the principal builders of the Prince of Wales’s model development at Poundbury in Dorset. The company was founded in the 1920s by managing director Philip Fry’s grandfather, and now builds up to 150 homes a year in southwest England. Some of its largest customers are housing associations such as Signpost and the Guinness Trust. The housing boom and astute, early purchases of land have boosted profits, which rose 56% a year from £1.7m in 2000 to £6.6m in 2003.
