If you want to call Japan or Moscow at 2p a minute, Callserve may have the answer. Founded in 1999, it enables consumers to make telephone calls over the internet. You simply download the software on to a personal computer, pre-pay, and with a special headset, dial anywhere at rates up to 90% cheaper than traditional telephony. Chaired by Ajaz Ahmed, co-founder of Freeserve, Callserve is now used in 50 countries and the firm’s sales have grown 96% a year from £2.7m in 2002 to £10.3m in 2004.
