As a reward for his efforts to boost tourism, Canterbury Travel’s sales director Adrian Collins was presented with a statue of himself made by a sculptor in Lapland. The company’s Winter in Wonderland packages include husky-dog safaris, trips on a skidoo, and a visit to Santa’s post office, where children can send their Christmas wish lists. Investing in its own hotels and cabins in Lapland, adding summer packages for vegetarians, and employing temps over the busy Christmas season have helped to boost profits, which rose 54% a year, from £915,000 in 2000 to £3.3m in 2003.
