Tony McKenna worked as an intermediary arranging catering cover before his customers persuaded him to start providing food himself. Cater Link was founded in 1992 and the Kent company now claims to provide 150,000 meals a week through 64 contracts with state and private schools, hospices, care homes and businesses. Contracts with independent and comprehensive schools and colleges, which account for about 70% of Cater Link’s revenue, have pushed up sales by almost 142% a year from £407,000 in 1999 to £5.7m in 2002.
