This year’s Europa League champions and Carabao Cup runners-up have built on an impressive financial performance last year, when profits grew 136% to £82.7m on sales of £443.4m. The increase was due to a return to Champions League football, which in turn led to more broadcasting revenues and additional sponsorship agreements with Nike, Sony and Ericsson. The club is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, 52, who has reportedly rejected a £2bn takeover bid.
