With an 18-strong chain of retail pharmacies in northwest England, branded Knights Pharmacy, and two specialist pharmacies, this company has grown through acquisition. It was founded in 2000 by David Turner, Peter Burrows, Martin Molyneux and Gary Sawbridge with a single pharmacy. They borrowed £10m from Royal Bank of Scotland so they could acquire three to four a year, each contributing more than £1m to sales. Such acquisitions, coupled with a policy of liaising with local surgeries and health authorities to collect prescriptions and deliver medicines, have helped to boost sales 109% a year, from £1.3m in 2001 to £12.2m in 2004.
