The success of Chemilines comes from the vision of the Kenyan-born brothers Ravi and Jagdish Karia. They take advantage of exchange-rate fluctuations and government subsidies to source low-cost pharmaceuticals, perfumes and photographic equipment from abroad and distribute them to the British wholesale market. Their West London firm, founded in 1985, has boosted its profits 69% a year from £1.2m in 1999 to £6.1m in 2002.
