Originally set up as a utilities reseller by chief executive David Pollock, Chess started focusing on telecoms in the late 1990s. The Cheshire company purchases fixed-line, mobile and broadband telecoms products from operators such as BT and Cable & Wireless, and resells to 7,000 businesses, including Sale Sharks rugby club and Bargain Booze. Pollock has expanded rapidly by buying 15 telecoms resellers in the past two years and there are more purchases on the way. Sales have increased 91% a year from £1.4m in 2002 to £9.7m in 2005.
