Chinook Sciences created its patented RODECS technology to recycle metals, but has since moved into applying the technology to produce energy from waste. America and the Middle East are growth areas for the Nottingham company, and in 2014 it won a £300m contract to develop what will be the world’s largest gasification energy-from waste facility in Sharjah, UAE. Overseas turnover reached £18.2m in 2014, under co-founder, chairman and chief executive Rifat Chalabi, 52.
