This Bridgend group claims to make as much as a quarter of Britain’s upholstered furniture. It has a complicated history, having been bought by Texan venture capitalists as part of the £919m acquisition of Hillsdown Holdings in 1999, and made a stand-alone company again two years later. Sales grew to £399m in 2002, when the company had 6,578 staff. The group has recently launched a new company in association with Sir Terence Conran.
