This company started as an importer in 1919 when £1 was worth $5, CJ Lang is one of Scotland’s largest independent retail and distribution firms. Holding the Spar grocery franchise in Scotland as well as running the Martex cash and carry group, the company also has food services and catering supplies businesses, and supplies the VG chain of corner shops. It is chaired by CJ Lang’s granddaughter, Joan Scott- Adie, and led by managing director Scott Malcolm, sales reached £255.4m in 2008.
