This company was founded in 1919 by Charles J Lang after he drew inspiration from his uncle’s grocery store in St Andrews. Successive generations have built up the business so that it is now one of Scotland’s largest independent retail and distribution firms. Based in Dundee, the group owns the Spar Scotland franchise, supplying 400 Spar stores of which 91 are owned by the group. Under managing director Scott Malcolm, sales reached £261.4m in 2009.
