Claverley Company

Local newspapers like the Shropshire Star are among the titles owned and published by the Wolverhampton-based Claverley Company. In 2003 it acquired the Channel Islands based Guiton Group for £75.9m, adding titles such as the Jersey Evening Post and Guernsey Press and Star. About half the firm’s revenue comes from its retail news agencies, with the rest made up by the newspapers and marketing computer systems. These activities contributed to sales of £251m in the year to January 2005. Claverley remains in family hands and is chaired by Douglas Graham, the founder’s son.
