Former doctors Neil Rotherham and Jonathan Engler started ClinPhone, which uses telecoms to help pool the results of clinical trials of drugs and makes them available – by phone and internet – to pharmaceuticals firms worldwide.

The Nottingham company now employs 300 people, and has raised its sales 67% a year from £3.1m in 1999 to £8.8m in 2001.
