London-based Computer Futures is one of the UK’s largest IT recruitment specialists. The company was founded by Bill Bottriell and Simon Arber in 1986, and it now has nine branches in the UK, along with overseas offices in Dublin, Brussels, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. It has appeared three years running on the Fast Track 100 league table of the UK’s fastest-growing unquoted companies by sales. Profits have grown by 97% pa, from £2.1m in 1995 to £16.1m in 1998, largely due to a 101% pa sales increase in the same period to £130.8m. In September 1999 Computer Futures merged with its sister company, Progressive Computer Recruitment, number three on the Profit Track 100, to create Solutions in Staffing and Software (S3). At a cost of £50m, Barclays Private Equity recently bought a stake in the new company, valuing it at around £250m. S3 is currently positioning itself to be top player in the burgeoning European market for IT recruitment.
