This County Durham business stocks more than 5,000 types of flooring, from carpet and wood to vinyl and artificial grass. It owns the Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct brands and traded exclusively online until 2017, when it opened its first physical store. It now has 28 showrooms across the UK, as well as 10 warehouses and a fleet of 90 delivery vehicles. Profits hit £2.5m in the year to July 2020, boosted by demand for home improvement products such as EvoCore, its own range of eco-friendly flooring. The company raised £5m from investor Growth Partner in 2020 to accelerate the rollout of stores, and it plans to open 20 more this year, bringing its estate to nearly 50. Sales are forecast to rise 40% in 2021 to £50m, under co-founder and chief executive Dan Foskett, 33.
