Founded in 1957 as a security company, Cordant now focuses mainly on recruitment, supplying workers in sectors such as nursing, engineering and catering. In 2016 the company’s revenues — which include temporary workers’ gross pay — rose 28% to an annualised £829m, thanks to organic growth and the acquisition of Staffgroup in 2015. The west London family-owned group is run by chief executive Chris Kenneally, 56, and chaired by Phillip Ullmann, 52.
