Built along the lines of the French bistro-brasserie concept, Côte now operates 27 licensed restaurants. Its first opened in Wimbledon in 2007, and since then units have popped up on high streets in London and the south of England. Food is served from breakfast through to dinner. Its majority shareholder, Richard Caring, previously owned the Strada chain, and so brings experience to the venture, along with four former Strada directors. Now serving about 50,000 customers a week, Côte reported sales growth of 166% a year, from an annualised £1.9m in 2008 to £35.6m in 2011, with good profit margins.
