CPL is responsible for keeping the fires burning at Buckingham Palace as an official coal merchant to the Queen. The company’s formation began in 1995, when management bought out part of British Coal. Then in 1998 this business was merged with British Fuels, UK Petroleum, Corralls and Caledonian Oil. CPL sells more than a billion litres of oil and 760,000 tonnes of solid fuel a year. Its sales were £506m in 2003.
