Ragleth has two businesses. The first, Crisp Malting, sells more than a quarter of a million tonnes of malted cereals a year to the world’s top brewers and distillers. Its malts, which can be made from barley, wheat, oats or rye, are used to make beer and whiskies such as Glenlivet. The other business, Edme Food Ingredients, produces malted grains, flours and malt extract for the baking, cereal and food industries. In 2005 a group of private investors led by David Thompson bought the firm. International sales have risen 45% a year from an annualised £8.6m in 2006 to £17.9m in 2008.
