CSR claims that 60% of all Bluetooth enabled devices, such as mobile phones, laptops and PDAs, contain one of its chips. The company’s designs are particularly innovative because they combine computing, memory and radio devices into a single chip. This requires less power and makes them cheaper, a combination that has attracted customers such as Microsoft, BMW, IBM and Sony. CSR has obtained more than £53m in funding from a dozen venture-capital and corporate investors. It is still making a significant loss, but its sales have risen 140% a year from £3m in 2000 to £17.2m in 2002.
