John Chelsom was struggling to make ends meet as a student when, to supplement his grant, he co-founded the IT consultancy CSW Informatics in 1988 with two colleagues. Some years later, Chelsom decided to go into the health sector after a chance meeting at a bus stop with David Nurse, an IT developer at the local hospital.
Today, Oxford-based CSW counts several hospitals as clients, while its business division has Jaguar and the BBC as customers. Sales grew by 66% a year from £675,000 in 1999 to £1.9m in 2001.
