Frustrated with spending hundreds of pounds on ineffective beauty products, co-founders Alexia Inge, 41, and Jessica DeLuca, 43, decided to create a website that would sell only make-up and skincare ranges that had passed a rigorous selection process. They set up Cult Beauty in 2008 and were joined in 2011 by co-chief executive Murray Salmon, 47. It now offers haircare, wellbeing and fragrance ranges, as well as cosmetics — and stocks well-known brands such as Charlotte Tilbury (No 21 on this year’s table) alongside up-and-coming ones including Huda Beauty and Drunk Elephant. Sales climbed to £66.7m in the year to May.
