Cheshire’s Cygnet Group develops machinery that makes materials, such as carbon fibre, that are used by Boeing, Airbus and the automotive sector. It also manufactures couplings and connectors for the subsea oil and gas industry, helping to reduce the risk of spillage and improve safety. The company, owned by chief executive Matthew Kimpton-Smith, 48, sells 30% of its equipment to China, helping exports reach £22.6m in 2015.
