The publisher of Dennis the Menace, Gnasher and the Bash Street Kids, DC Thomson has been producing The Beano for nearly 70 years. The company’s roots go back to at least 1884, when David Coupar Thomson took over the Dundee Courier and Daily Argus. Today the company produces 200m comics, magazines and newspapers from offices in Dundee, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester and London. Other flagship names on the roster include The Dandy, The Sunday Post and The Scots Magazine, and the company owns the Aberdeen Press and Journal and Puzzler Media Group. Under the chairmanship of Andrew Thomson, sales at the family-owned firm were £187.8m in 2006.
