Founded in 1990 by John Dunhill, Nigel Clack and Geoff Woodhead, Direct Group describes itself as a ‘middle office’ financial-services provider for clients that include Lloyds TSB, Axa and Aviva. The Doncaster company’s sales have grown 71% a year from £4.3m in 1998 to £21.4m in 2001, when it employed 55 people. Last month Dunhill sold his stake to his partners, who were backed by Barclays Private Equity.
