It designs insurance for banks’ customers to cover them if accident, illness or redundancy render them unable to make the repayments on their loans. The company was founded in 1990 by John Dunhill, Nigel Clack and Geoff Woodhead. It claims to manage the entire insurance process, from creating the product to paying a claim. It now designs a broad range of products, from lost-key insurance to a product protecting a homeowner from the cost of settling a dispute with a neighbour. Sales at the Doncaster company have grown 72% a year from £2.2m in 1997 to £11.2m in 2000, when it employed 47 staff.
