IT consultant Graeme Cox had to travel long distances to clients’ sites. However, during one three-hour commute, he discussed with Stuart Fraser an idea that would allow them to set up their own business. “We saw a need for an IT security provider in Scotland,” says Cox, “and we had plenty of time in the car to formulate the business plan.” Today Edinburgh-based dns includes Scottish Power, Royal Bank of Scotland and Clifford Chance among its customers. The company’s sales grew 99% a year from an annualised £503,000 in 2000 to £2m in 2002.
