Domestic & General had an unlikely start, insuring sheep and cattle in the Australian outback. Today it protects 22.8m household appliances, with more than half of its 16.5m customers in Britain. It partners with retailers and manufacturers, including Indesit, Argos, AO.com and Sky, to sell repair and protect plans. Led by chief executive Alex Labak, 52, the company was bought by CVC Capital Partners in 2013 for a reported £750m, including debt.
